Tibetan Lands

The areas of Eastern Tibet called Kham  and Amdo are among the most amazing places I have ever visitied. The high altitude plateau is graced with incredibly blue skies and green mountains in summer. The Khampa Tibetans were truely friendly. We attended Horse Festivals in Litang and Yushu (Jyekundo) -  I picniced with a family and. they dressed me in their finery. After, we flew to Lhasa where the Chinese presence was more pronounced. During the Shoton Festival, we saw the raising of the giant Thangka on the mountain behind Drepung Monastery and Tibetan Opera..
